Add Zovama with Google Tag Manager
If your site already uses Google Tag Manager, you can add the chat as a tag without touching the site itself. It takes about five minutes.
Before you start
Copy your install code from the Zovama panel: open Websites, choose your site and find the Install the widget card. Click Copy. The code is one line that starts with <script.
Steps
- Open your container at tagmanager.google.com.
- Go to Tags and click New.
- Under Tag Configuration choose Custom HTML and paste your Zovama code.
- Under Triggering choose "All Pages".
- Name the tag "Zovama chat" and click Save.
- Click Submit, then Publish.
Check that it works
- Open your website in a new browser tab and refresh the page.
- The chat bubble appears in the bottom corner of the page.
- In the Zovama panel, the Install the widget card changes to "Installed" once the widget has loaded on your site.
Common problems
- I saved the tag but nothing changed.
- A tag only goes live after you click Submit and Publish. Check that a new version appears under Versions.
- Does the site already have the Tag Manager snippet?
- Tag Manager only works if its own snippet is installed on your site. Look in the container's Install Google Tag Manager dialog for it.
- I do not see the chat bubble.
- Clear your site cache (caching plugin, CDN or host cache) and refresh the page with Ctrl+F5 (Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac). Sites often serve an old copy of the page for a while.
- Where exactly does the code go?
- Just before the closing </body> tag, once per page. Pasting it twice is not harmful but is not needed.
- The code is installed but the panel says it is waiting.
- The widget only loads on the domains listed under Allowed domains for your site. Add your website address there, including the version with www if you use it.
- It shows for others but not for me.
- A browser extension such as an ad blocker can hide chat widgets. Try a private window with extensions off.
